Description:
The most famous painting by Guttuso, depicting an unorthodox, distorted and unholy crucifixion which scandalised the Vatican at the time. Standing out as an oppositional artist and intellectual, Guttuso claimed he wanted to represent the agony of Christ as a symbol of all those who were enduring torment and persecution because of their ideas.
