La bella addormentata

Artefact Type:

film

Description:
One of the most notable example of Italian 'calligrafismo', this stylistically refined drama film shows the misadventures of a young Sicilian girl ('la bella addormentata', because she is naive). Carmela starts working as a maid at a notary's house, who seduces her; she flees, but becomes involved in prostitution, until a young miner saves her. The film provides a skilful portrayal of the Sicilian social environment.
