Bengasi
- Artefact Type:
-
film
- Description:
- The film is set in the Libyan city Bengasi at the time of its siege, and then conquest, at the hands of the English (1941). It narrates the stories of different characters, both soldiers and civilians, whose lives are disrupted by the war. Despite being a propaganda film (which ends when Bengasi is reconquered by the Italians), it goes beyond propaganda, especially in its moving creation of a collective portrayal, and in its unusual and powerful depiction of women.
