Quattro passi tra le nuvole

Artefact Type:

film

Description:
With this comedy suspended between realism, immagination, and lyricism, which bears the mark of Cesare Zavattini's 'socially-charged' script, Blasetti reprises the theme of the contrast between the city and the countryside, already addressed in the (very different) film Terra madre. While working, a traveling salesman meets a girl who got pregnant and was abandoned by her partner; he accepts to pretend to be her husband in front of her family, just for one night, in order to avoid a scandal. Although he is embarrassed and upset by the situation, Paolo lives an intense experience which allows him to escape from his squalid existence in the city, if for one night. The film is widely considered, together with Ossessione and I bambini ci guardano, a precursor of Neorealism.
